Centrifugal force

Definitions

• An outward force that opposes centripetal force, resulting from the effect of inertia during a turn.
• The apparent force that an object moving along a circular path exerts on the body constraining the object and that acts outwardly away from the center of rotation.
• The apparent force occurring in curvilinear motion acting to deflect objects outward from the axis of rotation. For instance, when pulling out of a dive, it is the force pushing you down in your seat.
